RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina’s Senate approved a $21 billion state budget Thursday that will use $282 million to increase pay raises for teachers.
Public school teachers will receive an average seven-percent raise and kindergarten through college classrooms will get $113 million more in funding.
The vote follows a marathon week of crafting and debating the spending deal. The house is scheduled to take preliminary votes on the budget today, with a final vote early Saturday morning.
