GASTON COUNTY, NC — Drama in court Friday during the trial of a former high school wrestling coach charged with sex crimes involving students. The judge lambasted an observer in the courtroom for making faces at the jury and posting about the trial on social media.
Gary “Scott” Goins took the stand Friday. He used to work at East Gaston High School and faces nearly two-dozen sex charges involving students. Goins described the “hazing” he says was a part of his upbringing.
“If you wanna be a part of things you’ve gotta earn your stripes. Now the other stuff the what’s been referred to as ‘choking out’ and these things is rough housing, is horseplay,” said Goins.
Goins’ wife Angela also took the stand. She answered questions about the night Goins was allegedly attacked and choked by a former student. Goins claims he doesn’t remember what happened.
