ROCK HILL, SC — For some North Carolinians, back-to-school shopping means crossing state lines for cheaper deals. Β Tax-free weekend kicked off at midnight Friday in South Carolina and will continue until Sunday. Β Shoppers can get discounts on clothing, school supplies and computers. Β Shoppers we talked to in Rock Hill say the drive is well worth the deals.
“It’s such a benefit and I can’t believe that North Carolina isn’t doing it. Β So we’re so close, we just hopped on 485 we’re here. Β Its a quick drive and we get to take advantage of it,” said Stalings resident Lisa Anderson.
North Carolina repealed its sales tax holiday in July. Β Lawmakers say it cost the state more than $13 million in lost revenue.
