Charlotte Pride Offers Workshop To Protect Gay Rights

ASHEVILLE, NC–The Campaign for Southern Equality in partnership with the LGBTQ Law Center will offer a free legal workshop at Charlotte Pride on Saturday, August 16th.

From noon to 4 p.m. around 30 licensed attorneys and notaries are volunteering so that individuals can complete a Health Care Power of Attorney on site for free.

“Health Care Powers of Attorney allow individuals to name the person who will make their health care decisions if they are ever incapacitated. These documents are particularly important in the LGBT community, where immediate family members might not be supportive, spouses might not be recognized by the state of North Carolina, or transgender issues might not be respected by someone’s next of kin. So far this summer, we have been able to help more than 150 people through similar Community Law Workshops and we look forward to Charlotte Pride, our biggest event yet,” says Liz Vennum of the Campaign for Southern Equality.
