TROUTMAN, N.C. — Police charged a woman after a child in her care accidentally shot himself with a gun. Β
Investigators say a 9-year-old boy got the gun while his caregiver, Brenda Moore Rucker, was sleeping. Β The child then shot himself in the leg. Β
He was rushed to a local hospital and then transported to Carolina’s Medical Center in Charlotte. Β He is expected to recover from his injuries. Β
Rucker has been charged with failure to store a firearm to protect minors and felony child abuse. Β
