CHARLOTTE, NC — A new tribute at Garinger High School honors 15 former students who died in Vietnam. The school unveiled a six foot tall monument inscribed with the men’s names Friday.
It’s a gift from the class of 1964. Dozens of people came together for the dedication, including family members and former classmates.
“I’m no different than they are. All of us who went, we justified, we found a reason when we got over there… for being there,” said Garinger graduate and Purple Heart Recipient Raymond Hait.
There are new scholarships for graduating Garinger seniors, one in honor of each of the fallen soldiers.
