Three-time Cup champion Tony Stewart pulled out of the race 12 hours after he struck and killed sprint car driver Kevin Ward Jr.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) β Coach Ron Rivera says help is on the way for the Carolina Panthers’ offense. Rivera says he expects quarterback Cam Newton and running backs DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart to play in the team’s second preseason game Aug. 17 against Kansas City.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) β Noah Rubin won the USTA Boys’ 18s National Championship on Sunday to earn a main draw wild card into the U.S. Open, beating Collin Altamirano 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. The 18-year-old Rubin also earned a wild card into the U.S. Open doubles main draw Saturday when he teamed with 16-year-old Stefan Kozlov of Pembroke Pines, Florida, to win the Boys’ 18s title.
