MORGANTON, N.C. – Investigators remained on the scene throughout the day Sunday on West Concord Street near downtown Morganton.
Police say they were conducting a welfare check around 1am Sunday morning, when they found three bodies inside the house. They are now treating it as a homicide investigation.
A family friend confirms the victims are Barbara Johnson, her son Freddie Thompson, and family friend Zakiyah Bey.
The State Bureau of Investigations was called in to help.
The house where it happened sits off West Concord Street behind another house. So far, police haven’t released many other details.
We’re told the victims’ bodies have been sent for autopsies.
A neighbor and family friend, who didn’t want to show his face on camera, says Barbara was a good person. He says she took care of her son Freddie, because he had a mental disability. “They was good people. She was a good girl. Shakes you up, in this neighborhood right here,” he says.
The neighbor says the family had only been living in the house less than a week.
