Jury Finds Former Gaston County Wrestling Coach Guilty Of Sex Crimes

GASTONIA, N.C. — A jury in Gaston County has found former wrestling coach Gary ‘Scott’ Goins guilty of sex crimes involving wrestlers on his team. Β He was found guilty on 17 or the 20 charges he faced.

He faces a minimum of 34 years and 10 months behind bars.Β

Three accusers say Goins touched them inappropriately and forced them to perform sex acts while they were members of the East Gaston High School wrestling team. Β Most of the alleged incidents happened on trips or inside the school during the late 1990s. Β

Defense witnesses claim one accuser wanted Goins’ job and other wrestlers were upset about being thrown off the team for drug and alcohol violations.
