
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are investigating a dog shooting in east Charlotte.
Around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, detectives with the Gaston County Police Department went to a residence on Rocky River Church Road to speak with a person in regards to an ongoing investigation. The detectives say, while they were at the home, a pit-bull that was unsecured in the backyard approached them in an aggressive way.
One of the detectives fired his gun, hitting the pit-bull. The pit-bull later died from the injuries.
Family members say the 11-year-old dog is not aggressive.
Gaston County Police Department is handling the investigation surrounding the shooting. The detectives involved have not been identified at this time.
