Odor Evacuates Union County DHHS Building, Sends Nine To Hospital

MONROE, N.C. — The Department of Health and Human Services was evacuated Thursday morning after employees reported smelling an unusual odor in the building on Roosevelt Boulevard.

Clients and employees reported experiencing nausea, vomiting, headache and dizziness. Nine people were taken to CMC Union.

Officials say the odor was coming from a grease trap in a dumpster that is located near an air handling system.

Monroe Fire Department is still investigating and have closed the building down for the day.
