CHARLOTTE, NC — A Charlotte man accused of pointing a laser at a CMPD helicopter didn’t say a word when he walked out of court Thursday.  But police are speaking out about Smith Brundage’s charges.

They say he pointed the laser Tuesday night from Camp Stewart Road.  Officers say his actions could have caused a helicopter crash.  They want people to learn a lesson from the incident.

“As police officers, when you see a laser, we’re thinking not necessarily a laser pointer but a laser on a weapon… We need to make sure that people are not just going out and getting these things and thinking they’re a toy because they are not,” said CMPD Officer Eric Kelly.

If convicted, Brundage could face 5 to 20 months in prison for each of his two charges.
