Β CHARLOTTE, NC —Β A Charlotte man accused of pointing a laser at a CMPD helicopter didn’t say a word when he walked out of court Thursday. Β But police are speaking out about Smith Brundage’s charges.
They say he pointed the laser Tuesday night from Camp Stewart Road. Β Officers say his actions could have caused a helicopter crash. Β They want people to learn a lesson from the incident.
“As police officers, when you see a laser, we’re thinking not necessarily a laser pointer but a laser on a weapon… We need to make sure that people are not just going out and getting these things and thinking they’re a toy because they are not,” said CMPD Officer Eric Kelly.
If convicted, Brundage could face 5 to 20 months in prison for each of his two charges.
