Through A Lens Darkly With Thomas Allen Harris

Join the Gantt Center and documentary filmmaker Thomas Allen Harris for a screening and discussion of his film, Through a Lens Darkly: Black Photographers and the Emergence of a People. Inspired by artist, scholar, and Gantt Center 2014 Spirit of the Center Award recipient Deb Willis‘ book Reflections in Black, this film is a unique investigation of the way black photographers have used the camera to document, define, and re-present blackness over the past 160 years. Hear artists Deb Willis, Carrie Mae Weems, Lorna Simpson, Anthony Barboza, Hank Willis Thomas, Lyle Ashton Harris and Glenn Ligon share their perspectives on their work and the power of the camera. The screening will be followed by Q & A with Mr. Harris and Jonell Logan, Gantt Center Director of Education and Public Programs.
