MLB-SCHEDULE

2 day games dot the schedule…King Felix goes for 14th tonight against Price

UNDATED (AP)β€” The bulk of the Major League schedule is under the lights tonight, but there are a couple of afternoon games to set the table.

In the American League, the New York Yankees are at Tropicana Field to play the Rays, who blanked the Bronx Bombers 5-0 last night. Shane Greene takes a 3-1 record to the mound for the Yanks against Drew Smyly, the pitcher who came over from Detroit in the David Price trade. Smyly earned his first win for the Rays last time out, going 7 and a-third innings in a 7-0 whitewash of Texas.

Over in the National League, Philadelphia is in San Francisco playing the Giants. It’s 5-11 Kyle Kendrick for the last-place Phillies against Tim Hudson, who’s sporting an 8-9 mark for the Giants.

Tonight, there’s a battle of division leaders in Los Angeles when Milwaukee visits Chavez Ravine to play the Dodgers. It’s Yovani Gallardo (GY’-ar-doh) of the Brewers against 14-2 ace Clayton Kershaw.

Pittsburgh is playing the middle game of its series in the nation’s capital against the NL East-leading Nationals. Washington held off the Pirates 5-4 in last night’s series opener.

The Atlanta Braves, the team that is six games back of the Nationals, send out ace Julio Teheran (TEH’-ran) against Oakland’s 12-game winner Sonny Gray. The Braves broke out of a slump by hitting four home runs in a 7-2 victory last night for the A’s, cutting their lead in the AL West to one game over the L.A. Angels.

Over in the American League, the AL East-leading Baltimore Orioles send out Ubaldo Jimenez (oo-BAHL’-doh hih-MEHN’-ehz) against the Cleveland Indians. The Tribe pulled out a 2-1 victory last night in 11 innings.

The best pitching matchup of the night is in Motown. Seattle’s Felix Hernandez tries for his 14th victory when the Mariners take on the Tigers and 11-game winner David Price. The Mariners whacked the Tigers 7-2 last night.
