CHARLOTTE, NC – Two CMPD officers are recovering after being shot responding to a call near North Tryon Street and Tom Hunter Road in Northeast Charlotte.

Chief Rodney Monroe says the officers responded to a call that a man with a shotgun was shooting along Kingville Drive.

Officers Kevin Stafford and Eric Bojaj were hit by shotgun pellets. The first in the arm and leg, the second officer in the face and elbow.

A 10-year-old girl, also shot in the standoff, is expected to be okay.

The shooting came an hour after police responded to a domestic violence call that turned up empty.

Police arrested Brandon Brewer. The 27-year-old man surrendered after a SWAT standoff. Chief Monroe says it’s a relief it didn’t turn out worse.

“Anytime you have something as callous as this that occurs in a neighborhood where innocent people are involved, you just need to count your lucky stars that no one was seriously hurt,” Monroe said.
