CHARLOTTE, NC — Tuesday, we will get a better idea of the number of open teacher positions in Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools. Superintendent Dr. Heath Morrison is holding a back-to-school briefing as the district counts down to the first day of classes next Monday.
A new elementary school focusing on science, technology, engineering and math is ready to roll for the start of the school year. Palisades Park Elementary has 39 classrooms loaded with the latest tools and toys: 10 iPads and an Apple TV in each room, and an emphasis on engineering brought to life in a unique environment.
“Our building has been built to show different inner workings through Plexiglas in the ceiling. So the students can see all the different pipes and how things work,” said Palisades Park Elementary Principal Gina O’Hare.
Money from the 2007 bond referendum built Palisades Park. The school will help relieve overcrowding at Winget Park and Lake Wylie Elementary.
