CHARLOTTE, NC – Joseph Easley, the brother of South Charlotte murder victim Bias Easley, faces assault charges. According to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, he attacked the suspect’s brother in court.
Raphael White was set to make his first appearance, charged with murdering Easley, a former corrections officer. Easley was shot outside the High Meadow Condos on Farmhurst Drive in June.
In court, Easley’s brother recognized White’s brother Trevor and punched him. He was upset because Trevor White is charged as an accessory to the murder after the fact, but is out on bond.
“The Deputies had sensed the tension that was going to occur in the courtroom. They immediately got on the radio and called for some additional help,” says Captain Charles Yongue, with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Trevor White’s attorney wants the case expedited, to keep the tension from lingering. “People have to understand we’ve got to resolve this in court. Not by fighting. It’s not going to help anybody,” says attorney James Exum.
When court resumed, a judge kept Raphael White in jail without bond.
