MLB-SCHEDULE
Cubs and Giants to continue game
UNDATED (AP) β The Giants and Cubs are set to resume their game from last night that was cut short by rain. In fact the Cubs were declared the 2-0 winners of the game when it was stopped after 4 1/2 innings. The Giants protested that the grounds crew in Chicago failed to do its job and get the tarp on the field in a timely matter.
Major League Baseball then reviewed the situation and determined that the game should not have been ruled a win for the Cubs, hence it will resume this afternoon in the bottom of the fifth. Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer called the decision “just” and said the grounds crew and umpires were caught off-guard by a “weird weather pattern.”
In other afternoon play today the Indians, Astros and Tigers are looking for a sweep of their respective three-game series with the Twins, Yankees and Rays. The Cleveland-Minnesota game features two 13-game winners as Corey Kluber (KLOO’-bur) goes for the Indians against Phil Hughes.
In evening play the Cubs and Giants will play their regularly scheduled game with Madison Bumgarner of the Giants going for his 14th win of the season against Travis Wood.
Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers is looking for his 15th win of the year as the Dodgers entertain the Cardinals. Kershaw is 14-3 with a fantastic 1.86 earned run average.
Red-hot Washington concludes its home series with Arizona. The National League East-leading Nationals have won nine straight and top the Braves, who are in Cincinnati, by seven games.
The final game of the night features the American League West-leading Angels in Boston. Los Angeles starts the day with a 1 1/2 game lead over the idle Athletics.
