CHARLOTTE, NC – For the first time in years, teachers will be getting a raise in North Carolina. Voters in Mecklenburg County will get to decide if more is on the way.

Already, the state budget gives North Carolina teachers an average 7 percent pay raise. But it varies greatly depending on experience.

Newer teachers will get more, while some veteran teachers will get less.

Mecklenburg County Commissioners have approved putting a quarter-cent sales tax referendum on the ballot for November.

If approved, most of that money would go to further teacher raises in Mecklenburg County.
