CHARLOTTE, NC — CMS is celebrating the smoothest first day of classes in years. Superintendent Dr. Heath Morrison says there were no problems with transportation or technology. The district estimated it would have almost 144,000 students, but it’s too early for updated enrollment numbers.
Morrison says CMS is still working to fill 58 vacant teacher positions and 46 teacher assistants. “And I keep on coming back to that because it’s really easy to say, well, CMS started off the day with 62 teachers, not filled, but again that means that 99.4 percent of our teachers were hired.”
Morrison says he’s excited to build on last year’s higher graduation rates. This year CMS opened a new Montessori school, a Stem school, two middle colleges and an early college.
