CHARLOTTE, NC — The President’s visit comes during a heated Senate race in North Carolina.  A campaign that could help swing the balance of power on the Senate floor.

Democratic Senator Kay Hagan has been distancing herself from President Obama as she battles Republican Thom Tillis.  Both candidates are wooing the state’s large veteran population, and both have been critical of the President’s handling of the recent VA crisis.

“We’re going to see a lot of President Obama because Tillis’ campaign is going to do everything they can to tie her to the unpopular aspects of Obama.  So we’re going to see an election by proxy,” said UNC Charlotte Political Science Professor Eric Heberlig.

Republicans need to win six seats in the November election to gain control of the Senate from the Democrats.
