CHARLOTTE, NC — Two West Charlotte High School students have been hit crossing the same road in less than a week. The latest victim: a 16-year-old girl on her way to school.
Police say D’nea Watson wasn’t using a crosswalk when she tried to cross Beatties Ford Road Friday morning. She has serious injuries. A 16-year-old girl was seriously hurt on Monday when she ran into traffic at the intersection of Hildebrand Street.
“It’s not worth your life to take a chance. You look two minutes down, for two more minutes this whole thing could have been avoided. The crosswalk is right there,” said west Charlotte resident Jeanne McClain.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools had this to say about the crashes: “These tragic events stress the importance of road safety for motorists and students. We ask that motorists take extra care when driving near school campuses.”
