LANCASTER, SC  – No sign of a dangerous shooting suspect still on the run Saturday night. Neighbors want to know how an attempted murder suspect, on his way to jail, slipped away so easily.

“We have kept our doors locked, and left a light on, and kept our garage door down,” explains Lancaster, SC resident Carol Ghent. Neighbors like Ghent, taking extra precautions, a day after Deqwon Blackmon escaped from police custody. “I just wonder, how he was able to escape. That concerns me,” she says.

23-year-old Blackmon took off into the woods Friday, while he was being brought into the Lancaster County Detention Center.  “I’d like to know how a prisoner just, runs away in front of the officers. Right in front of them,” says Lancaster, SC resident Doris Taylor.

Backmon is accused of shooting three people after an argument at the Waffle House on the Highway 9 Bypass last Saturday. SLED sent a K-9 tracking team and a helicopter, but so far the search has come up empty.

People who live by the jail say they continue to be concerned. One woman told us she’s been staying with a friend. Blackmon is about six feet tall. He was wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans when he escaped.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says while he didn’t have a weapon when he escaped, he should still be considered dangerous. Anyone who knows where Blackmon may be should call South Carolina CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or 1-888-274-6372.
