NEW YORK (AP) β€” In the first result of the day from the U.S. Open, women’s 13th seed Sara Errani (ehr-RAH’-nee) has won a fourth-round match, defeating Mirjana Lucic-Baroni (mur-YAH’-nah LOO’-chich-buh-ROH’-nee), 6-3, 2-6, 6-0. Other seeded players seeing action today include fifth seed Maria Sharapova (shah-rah-POH’-vah) and men’s No. 2 Roger Federer.

KANSAS CITY (AP) β€” The American League Central Division race has gotten a lot tighter this weekend. That’s because Kansas City, the team in first place on Friday morning, has lost two straight to the Indians, dropping the Royals into a first-place tie with Detroit. Lurking right behind the leaders is Cleveland. The Indians are 3 Β½ back and tonight they play the Royals in KC.

CHICAGO (AP) β€” The Chicago White Sox have sent Adam Dunn to the Oakland Athletics. In return, the White Sox are getting minor league pitcher Nolan Sanburn. Dunn, who has hit 460 career homers, struggled in four seasons with the White Sox.

HAMPTON, Ga. (AP) β€” NASCAR fans are anticipating tonight’s Sprint Cup race in Hampton, Georgia, as it marks the return of Tony Stewart. The former Cup champion missed the last three races after killing dirt track racer Kevin Ward Jr. on Aug. 9. Stewart will start from the 12th position on the grid.

BILBAO, Spain (AP) β€” The U.S. men’s basketball team has its second game of the World Cup today in Spain. Behind 18 points from Klay Thompson yesterday the Americans beat Finland 114-55. On tap today is a game against Turkey, a rematch of the 2010 world basketball championship gold-medal game.
