Apartment Security Guard Attempting To Stop A Suspect Charged After Shots Were Fired

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Β Reports of a man smashing in a car window at a University area apartment complex led the to the arrest of the suspect and the area security guard.

Police say Juan Esobar broke a car window at the 901 Place apartments just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday as part of a domestic situation.

A citizen flagged down the complex security guard Michael McCoy who approached Escobar.

Investigators say Escobar tried to drive off and that’s when McCoy shot at the moving car.twice as an attempt to stop him. Police say the second shot was fired when Escobar no longer posed a threat.

McCoy is charged with discharging a firearm at an occupied conveyance and discharging a firearm in city limits. Escobar was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, careless and wreckless driving and damage to property. Escobar was taken to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
