CHARLOTTE, NC — Mecklenburg County is considering a new smoking ban. Residents have their one and only chance to tell Commissioners what they think about the proposal Tuesday night.
The Health Director wants to ban smoking outside all government buildings and in county parks. That includes Greenways and golf courses. Because North Carolina considers electronic cigarettes a tobacco product, they would also be banned.
“I think it’s the right of each individual, you know what I mean, because we are outside,” said north Charlotte resident Tonia McAfee.
“If you want to ban it from the whole park, I’m okay with that,” added another resident.
“It pollutes the air and makes it bad,” said a local child.
The public hearing begins at 6:30 Tuesday night at the Government Center. Commissioners will vote on the ban September 17.
