Charlotte Missionary Talks About Fight With Ebola

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte missionary Nancy Writebol discussed her fight to survive after contracting the Ebola virus in Liberia.

Writebol talked with reporters Wednesday morning during a news conference at SIM USA.  She says she remembers thinking she would not survive.

However, Writebol was flown from Liberia to America and treated at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta until she finally tested negative for the virus.

Nancy’s husband, David, was quarantined at SIM’s Charlotte campus while his wife was trying to recover from the virus because he was exposed to his wife while they were living together in Liberia.

Officials also released the name of the third American who has contracted the virus.  Dr. Rick Sacra, 51, is being treated in Liberia for Ebola.  Officials are not saying if he will be flown to America for treatment.

Writebol and Dr. Kent Brantly were the first Americans to contract the virus while doing missionary work in South Africa.  Both have been treated and told they presented no public health threat.
