Β CHARLOTTE, NC — A mother and her young son were trapped inside their car by rising flood waters in uptown Charlotte Wednesday night.
“I thought that I was driving on the concrete until it actually hit the water, and I was trying to press the gas pedal and it wouldn’t go,” said Charlotte resident Sheena Raley. Β “We called the fire truck, and the fire truck saved us,” added her son, Aarion.
This was one of several swiftwater rescues as storms rolled across our area.
Β “It’s bad, I mean, my whole front end, almost my car, was swept away. Β This is bad,” said Anthony Epps.
Fast-rising water trapped Epps inside his car at Freedom Park Wednesday night. Β All the water forced police to shut down the entrance to the park along East Boulevard.
Pouring rain also caused flash flooding in east Charlotte. Β Our crews spotted water overflowing the banks at the Campbell Creek Greenway off Margaret Wallace Road. Β We also spotted water pouring down a hill on Central Avenue.
