Woman Dies After Crashing Into Tree In Northwest Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A woman died after crashing into a tree on the 3500 block of Kelly Road just before 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Melanie Felts, 32, was driving a Volvo 850 when she went off the right side of the road. The car sideswiped a tree, struck a mailbox and hit another tree head-on before catching on fire.

Medic pronounced Felts dead on scene. Investigators say speed was a factor in the single car crash. They are still investigating if alcohol was involved.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Matthew Sammis at 704-336-8862.
