BALTIMORE (AP) β The controversy surrounding the NFL and former Baltimore running back Ray Rice continues to boil. The league has initiated an independent investigation of the matter with former FBI director Robert S. Mueller (MUHL’-ur) in charge. At the core of the issue is just when did the NFL first get and see the second video showing Rice knocking down his then-fiancee.
BALTIMORE (AP) β It has been a tumultuous week for the Baltimore Ravens. As the club has had to deal with the Ray Rice story it has had to get ready for a game tonight against divisional foe Pittsburgh. The Ravens and Steelers have a history of tight games as 10 of their last 12 have been decided by three points or less. This evening’s AFC North game is being played in Baltimore.
UNDATED (AP) β A check of the afternoon baseball schedule shows five games are being played. In Cleveland it’s two for the price of one as the Indians and Twins are playing a makeup game for the one rained out last night and then the regularly scheduled game. The other day contests feature St. Louis playing at Cincinnati, Oakland in Chicago playing the White Sox and Arizona at San Francisco.
ATLANTA (AP) β The PGA stop this weekend is a big one as it brings to an end the FedEx Cup tournament. The remaining 30 players in the playoff are in Atlanta for the Tour Championship with the high-point man at the end of play Sunday the winner of a $10 million check. The top five in the standings are Chris Kirk, Billy Horschel, Bubba Watson, Rory McIlroy and Hunter Mahan (MAY’-han).
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) β Hall of Fame quarterback Bart Starr is recovering from a mild stroke. In a statement released by the team, Starr’s family says the 80-year-old had the stroke last week. The family says Starr is functional and making progress every day.
