In all the buzz over the Ray Rice situation, the local link has been overlooked… almost. The Panthers’ Greg Hardy is now getting some additional and refocused attention as domestic abuse has become a national topic. And today his situation took on a whole new level of interest.
Today, coach Ron Rivera announced that Greg Hardy will be available to play on Sunday. That’s despite his conviction, and current appeal, for violence and threats against his former girlfriend. Which we knew, but it’s taken on a different tone since the video of Ray Rice came out.
Panthers owner Jerry Richardson, even breaking down because of the overall situation at last night’s event where he was given an award against indifference. But per NFL regulations over ongoing legal issues, Hardy can play.
But the NFL is starting to look pretty suspect to a lot of people. Despite the fact that they just increased domestic violence punishment, today, there’s new word that Commissioner Roger Goodell has been less than forthright about what he knew and when. That Ray Rice was not “ambiguous” as Goodell claims, when they talked about it, that Rice made it clear he had hit his fiance. And with the public growing more outraged over the situation, it puts the Hardy decision in question.
So what do you think? Should the Panthers let Greg Hardy play on Sunday?
