Man Charged After Officer Involved Shooting Friday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A shooting involving a CMPD officer and two suspects occurred on the 5600 block of Farm Pond Lane just before 11 p.m. Friday.

Franswa X. Crawford, 31, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer, discharging a firearm within city limits and resist, obstruct and delay. Crawford was taken to Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Sergeant Rozell was working off-duty when he responded to hearing gunshots nearby. Rozell saw two suspects shooting guns and commanded them to drop their weapons.

Rozell followed after the suspects who ran off into the apartment complex. Crawford and another suspect pointed their guns at Rozell and Rozell fired his service gun, striking Crawford in the arm.

Crawford was taken to CMC by Medic with non-life-threatening injuries. Officers say they are still searching to the second suspect.
