WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. has carried out airstrikes targeting ISIS militants in Iraq.  One airstrike happened near Baghdad after Iraqi troops, who came under fire by ISIS fighters, asked for help.  The other airstrike reportedly hit an ISIS base.

The airstrikes come as the U.S. lines up support to fight ISIS.  Secretary of State John Kerry met with world leaders in Paris Monday.  About 40 nations have agreed to join the coalition against the terror group.  Several countries have even pledged ground troops to fight ISIS, but the White House is not identifying those countries.

“This is us trying to get other countries to fight the war for us.  We’re willing to provide the air power, we’re willing to provide the logistics, the intelligence, even some funding,” said Lt. Col. Rick Francona (Air Force, Ret.)

President Obama has reiterated several times that there will be no U.S. troops on the ground during the conflict.
