Comedy Night to Benefit Local Autism Nonprofits

Local autism nonprofits Reagan’s Wish and S.A.M. will have the spotlight at a fundraiser at The Comedy Zone Wednesday, Oct. 29. The evening will begin with a reception and costume contest at 7 p.m. followed by a live auction and comedy show. Tickets are $15 each and are available online at www.cltcomedyzone.com or at the door. Proceeds will be split between the two charities who share the same mission: to make a difference for local children with special needs. Matthews-based Reagan’s Wish provides iPads to local children with autism. It’s the creation of Matthews mother Kimberly Pace Smith who started the charity after the gift of an iPad to her nonverbal autistic daughter, Reagan, changed her life. S.A. M., or So Autistic and Marvelous, was launched by Ebony King whose son, Bryson, was the first local child to receive an iPAD from Reagan’s Wish. S.A.M. provides weighted blankets to children with sensory processing disorder. Weighted blankets can help provide restful sleep for children with sensory disorders, which is common for those with autism.
