Β WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. military’s top commander says he’s open to calling in ground troops to fight ISIS, if needed. Β The White House quickly responded saying the U.S. will not deploy ground troops in a combat role. Β The remarks came during a Senate hearing on the threat of ISIS militants.Β

“This counter-terrorism campaign we’re undertaking now isn’t like anything we have ever seen before. Β There are some good comparisons. Β They’re not one-to-one comparisons, but it’s certainly not the Iraq war,” said Deputy State Department Spokesperson Marie Harf.

The White House plans to ask Congress for $500 million to train, arm and equip about 5,000 moderate Syrian rebels for one year.
