CHARLOTTE, NC — Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is talking about the decision to place embattled teammate Greg Hardy on a paid leave of absence.
“You heart for a person of Greg who have done, in my opinion, every single thing that is asked of him to do,” said Newton. “He knows at the end of the day, he’s a grown man. He made the decision that he did, but at the end of the day, that’s our teammate. We can’t turn our back of anybody on this organization and we don’t. A lot of guys feel for Greg, including myself, but we still have a job to do.”
Hardy is appealing his domestic violence conviction. A jury is scheduled to hear his case in November. He could return to the team after that.
