GLASCOW, SCOTLAND – Even though Glasgow was decidedly in favor of leaving the U.K., the cheering crowds in the city thinned when as the night went on, defeat seemed more and more certain.

After a historic referendum vote, it was decided that Scotland will remain a part of the United Kingdom.  Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond said that a turnout of 86% was one of the highest in the democratic world of any election on referendum history.

With more than 3.6 million people casting votes, 56% of the voters rejected the independence.
