CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — A couple was arrested on drug charges Wednesday after a three month long surveillance narcotics investigation.
Police say Melissa Rashelle Sipe, 34 of Newton and Jason Matthew Owens, 30 of Hickory, traveled to Catawba County to distribute drugs purchased in Charlotte.
Narcotic Investigators had an eye on Sipe for over a year before catching her at the right time. Investigators conducted a traffic stop on HWY 16 northbound where they seized 9 grams of black tar heroin, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and prescription drugs from Sipe. They also seized $700 cash.
Police charged Sipe with one felony count each of trafficking opium or heroin, conspiracy and possession of a controlled schedule 11 substance. She also faced several misdemeanor charges and was jailed under a $35,000 bond.
Owens was charged with felony trafficking in opium or heroin and felony conspiracy with a $25,000 secured bond.
Police took the couple to the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center.
