CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) β The Charlotte Hornets’ goal this season is to make a deeper run in the Eastern Conference playoffs. General manager Rich Cho believes the team is capable of doing that. Cho says, “We have a good mix of veterans and young players.”
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) β South Carolina will guarantee four-year scholarships to its qualifying NCAA sports. The school sent out letters to its 383 athletes yesterday, 121 of whom will receive the full four-year guarantee when renewing their scholarships.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) β Three games into the season, North Carolina’s defense is racking up totals in the wrong categories. The Tar Heels gave up 70 points and 789 yards in last weekend’s loss at East Carolina. And other than a flurry of takeaways in the first two games, there hasn’t been much to feel good about heading into tomorrow’s Atlantic Coast Conference opener at Clemson.
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (AP) β Team Penske has signed Joey Logano to a contract extension after the best season of his career. The team announced the multiyear deal yesterday for the Chase for the Sprint Cup contender. He’ll remain behind the wheel of the No. 22 Ford in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and No. 22 in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
