Β CHARLOTTE, NC —Β Some stranded passengers spent the night at Charlotte-Douglas Airport Friday night. Β A fire at a Chicago control tower canceled eight flights from the Queen City to the Windy City, and left hundreds stranded. Β Many are dealing with tough times of their own, trying to get home.
“It’s hard. Β My husband just had surgery done, and he’s without his medicine,” said Chicago area resident Dawn Bates. Β Β “There’s not much you can do about it, but it’s not real handy,” added her husband, John.
More than 700 American Airlines flights were canceled nationwide. Β There’s no word when full service will be restored at the airports in Chicago. Β Police believe a contract employee who recently learned he was being transferred set the fire, then tried to take his own life.
