WASHINGTON, D.C. — New airstrikes against ISIS targets in Iraq and Syria. It comes as some lawmakers suggest there need to be U.S. boots on the ground.
American fighter jets carrying out the strikes are taking off and landing on the U.S.S. George H.W. Bush in the Persian gulf. There have been more than 200 airstrikes over the past couple of days. A Republican U.S. Senator from the Carolinas says we need boots on the ground.
“People are worried that radical Islam is on the march, and that our nation is in their cross-hairs. And I’ve got one very simple message, my goal, along with Thom’s, is to keep the war over there, so it doesn’t come here,” said Senator Lindsey Graham (R, SC).
Senator Graham and Senate candidate Thom Tillis spoke in Charlotte Friday about the War on Terror. They stressed the need to keep all options open when it comes to eliminating ISIS.
More countries are joining the U.S.-led coalition against ISIS. British lawmakers approved military action against the terrorist group Friday. The Netherlands says six F-16 fighter jets will carry out airstrikes, and 250 of its troops will train Iraqi and Kurdish forces. Denmark and Belgium have also announced plans to send fighter jets for the next phase of the air campaign.
ISIS fighters are continuing their assault against local Kurds at the Syria – Turkey boarder. People trying to escape the violence in Syria have been flooding that boarder. Turkey says it is ready to conduct any military operation necessary to bring stability to the region.
