SUNSET, S.C. (AP) β Clemson coach Brad Brownell is looking for a new star to fill the void created by the departure of Atlantic Coast Conference defensive player of year K.J. McDaniels.
McDaniel led the Tigers with 17.1 points a game and the ACC with 100 blocked shots. He gave up his senior season for the NBA draft was taken 32nd overall by the Philadelphia 76ers.
For Brownell, the question of McDaniels’ successor is not as significant as those that loomed over his program this time a year ago. The Tigers finished at 13-18, their first losing season in nine years and Brownell faced an uphill climb to make an impact in the supersized ACC.
But behind McDaniels, Clemson went 23-13 and reached the NIT semifinals. Brownell was rewarded with a six-year contract extension.
