CHARLOTTE, NC — Deputies trying to evict an elderly couple from their South Charlotte apartment uncovered a murder-suicide instead.

Police say 70-year-old Edward Rosner shot and killed his 68-year-old wife Prudence Rosner and then turned the gun on himself.

Beverly Fullam has lived at the Providence Place Apartments for a year and says there are several elderly couples who live there.

“There are some around me who don’t drive anymore, and I always go and see if they need anything from the grocery store, anything I can do to help,” said Fullam. “I just wish they would have reached out. I really do.”

Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Deputies say they were serving an eviction notice to the couple when they found the husband shot dead. His wife was still alive with a gunshot wound, but she died at the hospital.

“I can’t even imagine if something happens to my neighbor or to family,” said Pavithra Sudevan. “I couldn’t even imagine that.”

Police won’t say whether the husband or wife fired the shots that killed them.

Now neighbors wonder what prompted the murder-suicide.

“I’m dealing with elderly, my mother now, and my dad just passed away,” said Fullam. “It just brings up a lot of bad feelings.”

Police are asking for the public’s assistance in developing information in this case. Anyone with information is asked to call 704-432-TIPS.
