CHARLOTTE, NC — North Carolina’s new voter ID law is under intense scrutiny. The Charlotte NAACP is warning voters to be on the lookout for voter intimidation scams.
On Wednesday, an appeals court ruled that same-day registration should be allowed, and ballots cast outside a voter’s assigned precinct should be considered. But the NAACP fears the constant back and forth could keep minority voters away from the polls.
“When you tell a person of a certain age, especially African American and Latinas, that certain laws of this and that, they belive because they’ve been supressed so much,” said Charlotte NAACP President Rev. Kojo Nantambu.
Voters are not required to show ID at the polls until 2016. By the way, early voting starts October 23.
