CORNELIUS, NC — A last-ditch effort to raise support for a tax hike for teacher raises. A quarter-penny sales tax will be on the November ballot in Mecklenburg County.
Parents at Hough High School in Cornelius got to talk with Superintendent Heath Morrison Thursday night about the referendum.
“We deserve to have a competitive salary,” said Hough parent Carrie Merner. “We want to bring in the very best. We don’t want to lose our seasoned teachers across the border to South Carolina or elsewhere.”
The sales tax would raise $36 million a year. Eighty percent of that would be used for raises for CMS employees.
