SAN FRANCISCO (AP) β€” The Washington Nationals are still alive in the National League Division Series after Doug Fister allowed four hits in seven shutout innings of a 4-1 triumph at San Francisco in Game 3. The game was scoreless in the seventh until Giants starter Madison Bumgarner threw away Wilson Ramos’ bunt attempt, allowing two runs to score. Asdrubal (as-DROO’-bul) Cabrera added an RBI single later in the seventh before Bryce Harper slammed a ninth-inning homer.

ST. LOUIS (AP) β€” Kolten Wong belted a tiebreaking, two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to send the St. Louis Cardinals to a 3-1 victory and a two-games-to-one lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Division Series. Lackey picked up the victory by holding L.A. to a run and five hits in seven innings, blanking the Dodgers until Hanley Ramirez hit an RBI double in the sixth. Matt Carpenter hit a solo shot, leaving him with three homers and seven RBIs already in the series.

ST. LOUIS (AP) β€” The Los Angeles Dodgers will go to ace Clayton Kershaw on three days’ rest in Game 4 of their NL Division Series against the St. Louis Cardinals tomorrow night. Kershaw is the heavy favorite to win a third NL Cy Young and won on short rest in the NL Division Series last year. But he was tagged for eight runs in 6 2/3 in the opener of the Dodgers’ division series against St. Louis last Friday.

LANDOVER, Md. (AP) β€” Russell Wilson accounted for 323 total yards and three touchdowns as the Seattle Seahawks downed Washington 27-17. Wilson rushed for a career-high 122 yards, including a nine-yard TD that put Seattle ahead 17-0 in the first half. He also completed 18 of 24 passes for 201 yards and two more scores as the defending Super Bowl champs improved to 3-1 this season.

UNDATED (AP) β€” USA Swimming has suspended 18-time Olympic champion Michael Phelps for six months and forced him to withdraw from next year’s world championships, slowing his comeback attempt. Phelps also lost six months of funding from the sport’s national governing body as a result of his second DUI arrest. The 29-year-old swimmer is banned from participating in USA Swimming-sanctioned meets through April 6, 2015.
