CHARLOTTE, NC — The battle to control Charlotte-Douglas will carry on for at least a few more days. There could be a ruling next week on the City of Charlotte’s lawsuit that blocks a new commission from taking control of the airport.
Superior Court judge Robert Ervin held a short hearing on the issue Friday afternoon, but did not issue a ruling after hearing arguments from both the City of Charlotte and the state.
“We think we made a very good argument. We have confidence that the judge will be thoughtful and thorough, and we look forward to his decision,” said City of Charlotte attorney Robert Hagemann.
“We still feel the act is constitutional, and will be in the best interest of the economic growth and prosperity of the airport and the region,” said Rep. Robert Rucho (R, Mecklenburg).
Control at the airport has been in dispute for almost two years. Both sides are asking the Federal Aviation Administration to weigh in with a decision.
