CHARLOTTE, NC — Thanks to some controversial new election rules, Friday was the last day to register to vote for the November 4 election.
The Mecklenburg County Board of Elections in Dilworth had tables set up outside to help with the process. The U.S. Supreme Court blocked a ruling this week that would have allowed same-day registration and out-of-precinct voting.
“Because of all these voter changing laws, and I didn’t want anything to hinder my vote this year. So I figured I’d better go ahead and get everything updated,” said east Charlotte resident Macheera Patterson.
The new North Carolina law reduces early voting to 10 days and calls for the soft rollout of a voter ID requirement by 2016.
