Troopers: Plane Crashes in Monroe, Pilot injured

MONROE, N.C. — A small plane crash in Union County has sent one person to the hospital with serious injuries. Troopers tell WCCB, an ultralight plane crashed into some trees along East Brief Road earlier this evening. The pilot, 45-year-old Paul Dowdey, from Stanly County was able to walk to a nearby house for help. He was then transported to Carolinas Medical Center where he is expected to be okay.
