KANSAS CITY (AP) β€” All hail the American League champion Kansas City Royals. Entering the playoffs as a wild card team the Royals eliminated Baltimore yesterday 2-1 to take the American League Championship Series in four straight. The Ned Yost-managed team has won all eight of its post season games this season and will now face either the Giants or Cardinals in the World Series. The opening game of the Fall Classic will be next Tuesday night in KC.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) β€” The Giants took a three games-to-one-lead over the Cardinals in the National League Championship Series last night with a 6-4 win. They will square off again this evening in Game 5 with the Giants advancing to the World Series with a victory. The pitching matchup is a rematch of the series opening starters, Madison Bumgarner for the Giants against Adam Wainwright.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) β€” NFL action this evening is taking place in Foxborough, Massachusetts, with the Patriots playing host to the Jets. New England enters the game with a record of 4-2 while the Jets are 1-5. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has won 40 consecutive regular-season home games against AFC opponents and is 6-0 in Thursday night games.

INCHEON, South Korea (AP) β€” The first round is in the books of this week’s LPGA tournament in South Korea. The leader after 18 holes is Haeji Kang, who shot a 5-under 67 to take a two-stroke lead over five players.
